Teeth Whitening Brisbane

Sit Back While We Brighten Your Day!

Over time the appearance and attractiveness of our teeth will change. Stains and discolouration on the tooth surface can be caused by things like tobacco, alcohol, coffee, tea and even certain mouth rinses. Sometimes our teeth are exposed to trauma, or affected by medications. As we get older in general our teeth will start to show their age. There are lots of reasons why your teeth may no longer be the sparkling, pearly whites they used to be. This is when you may find yourself at the dentist wanting a teeth whitening service.

Our dentists know how important it is to our patients to have professional teeth whitening that leaves a lasting result. The good news about professional teeth whitening is that it can be done with very little or no side effects. Sometimes when your teeth are whitened you may experience some tooth sensitivity. Usually this side effect is very mild and short lived. It generally stops after the treatment is completed. We take precautions to minimise the occurrence of tooth sensitivity by using whitening agents that include anti-sensitivity and tooth strengthening products.

Don't Just Paint Your Teeth White!

To keep up with our desire for whiter teeth, there are many teeth whitening products available. However, you should be very careful about what you place on your teeth or who you allow to do this. Dentists are the only ones qualified to assess and determine if your teeth are suitable for teeth whitening. Over the counter teeth whitening products and untrained operators offering teeth whitening treatments have been the cause of much publicised teeth and gum damage. If you are serious about getting whiter teeth, please discuss with your dentist whether tooth whitening is suitable for you and which systems are best for your situation.

Our team opts to use two methods that are both safe and effective. Professionally-Guided Take-Home Teeth Whitening is where low concentration whitening agent is worn in custom-fit trays. These trays sit over the teeth at home while you sleep or approximately 90 minutes a day to give whiter teeth slowly over 2 weeks. In-Office or In-Chair Power Teeth Whitening is where high concentration whitening agent is placed directly on the teeth in the surgery and activated with a special light to give whiter teeth immediately. This method gives the best result as it is controlled by the dentist.

What Happens When I Get Zoomed?

Zoom! in-chair teeth whitening is the best we have available. An appointment usually lasts 1.5 hours and involves:

  • An assessment to make sure your teeth are suitable
  • Recording of starting colour
  • Pumicing of the teeth
  • Placing barriers to protect the soft tissues
  • Placing high concentration whitening gel
  • Activating gel with special Zoom lamp
  • Up to 3 x 15 minute rounds of whitening
  • Removal of gel and barriers
  • Comparing end colour with starting colour

We Only Use Proven Products!

Tooth whitening should occur before any restorative dental work like fillings, veneers and crowns if the colour of the natural teeth is not desired. Fillings, veneers and crowns can be matched to the colour of the whitened teeth very easily, but it is very difficult to match teeth whitening to existing fillings and crowns as they do not whiten.

At Central Brisbane Dental, we use Pola Night as our take-home whitening system because it is safe to use during the day as well as overnight. Pola Night whitening gels are high viscosity and are neutral in pH to ensure greatest patient comfort during use in custom-made trays. The gels contain soothers and conditioners with a high water content to help reduce the risk of sensitivity and include fluoride to remineralise the teeth. Central Brisbane Dental choses to use the famous Philips Zoom! system for our in-office whitening because it gives the whitest teeth in the safest possible way. Besides clinically proven to whiten teeth up to 8 shades lighter, the Philips Zoom! in-office whitening system also contains ACP (amorphous calcium phosphate), which is clinically proven to reduce sensitivity, protect enamel and improve the luster and smoothness of your teeth.

Can't I Just Use A Teeth Whitening At Home Kit?

Don’t be fooled by the abundance of teeth whitening at home kits available. They range from teeth whitening toothpaste, to teeth whitening brushes and pens, to teeth whitening gels in strips or used in trays. Some even have a special teeth whitening light or lamp included. These products sold at the shops or at pharmacies may promise the same results as getting professional teeth whitening at the dentist. However, as evidenced by the numerous negative online reviews, these teeth whitening kits are not very effective and don’t produce much teeth whitening. This is because teeth whitening kits sold in Australia are heavily regulated. So that people don’t accidentally damage their teeth and gums, the concentration of the teeth whitening ingredient must be low for at home use to be legally sold in Australia. Unfortunately, the low concentration also leads to ineffective teeth whitening and poor results. If you import a high concentration at home teeth whitening product from overseas or online, it will be more effective, but there are also numerous online reviews telling stories of damaged teeth and gums from such products. So if you are looking at teeth whitening, it is best to see a dentist for it. Your dentist is most qualified to check your teeth and gums for teeth whitening suitability. At our Brisbane CBD dental clinic, our dentists will honestly tell you if teeth whitening is right for you or your teeth won’t change colour much. Teeth whitening will be carried out in a effective and safe manner, giving the best results without damaging the teeth and gums. Whether you choose Zoom in-chair teeth whitening with one of our Brisbane dentists or professionally-guided take-home teeth whitening using our custom-made trays, you will receive the best teeth whitening available with a scientifically proven product. Beware of cheap teeth whitening deals offered at beauty salons and teeth whitening lounges that try to mimic the in-chair teeth whitening process at the dentist. The teeth whitening there is often performed by an unqualified operator using lower concentration whitening products that aren’t as effective at whitening, but can still damage the teeth and gums. Only dentists can legally provide the highest concentration of teeth whitening product in Australia for obvious safety reasons. So please forget about the cheap teeth whitening at home kit on sale at Chemist Warehouse or a similar store, even if they allow you to use Afterpay or zipPay to purchase it.
