Chinese New Year 2017 began on 28 January 2017. The date is calculated from the Chinese Lunar Calendar which is based on movements of the moon. Celebrations last 15 days, culminating in the Lantern Festival on 11 February 2017.

The recent forced closure of a dental practice in Carina by Queensland Health and suspension of the dentist over serious hygiene concerns has raised alarm bells regarding infection control in dental care.
