Dreams About Teeth

Do you have dreams about teeth?  As a dentist, I thought it is only our profession that dreams about teeth as this is our work and what we see and deal with on a daily basis.  Naturally, it makes sense that you dream about what is going on in your life.  However, in society in general, it is apparently very common for us to dream about our teeth.  Unlike my own dreams of cases I’ve been doing at work, most people have dreams about their teeth falling out or breaking and crumbling.  Let’s have a look at what these dreams apparently mean:

Central Brisbane Dental – Not Your Typical Dentist

Central Brisbane Dental is not your typical dentist.  So many patients are scared to death of seeing the dentist for a variety of reasons.  The clinical setting, the procedure that needs to be done, the instruments that are required and the dental team themselves may evoke different fears in certain patients.  At Central Brisbane Dental, we’ve tried to address all these areas in an effort to make your visit with us not only more pleasant, but hopefully a wonderful experience.  In this blog article, let us start with why Central Brisbane Dental is not your typical dentist by telling you how we go to lengths to put you into the ideal environment for dental care.

Oral White Patches

Do you have oral white patches on your gums, tongue or lining of your mouth?  Are the white patches thick and plaque-like?  Do you smoke?  If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, you should see a dentist or doctor to have your mouth assessed.

Drug Abuse Destroys Your Mouth

Did you know that drug abuse destroys your mouth?  We all know recreational drug use has many negative consequences.  The classic image is of a person with blood shot eyes and bleeding nose, who is shaking and highly irritable or agitated.  However, it may not be known that drug abuse has significant consequences on your oral health as well.

Tell Your Dentist The Medications You Are Taking

It is extremely important that you tell your dentist the medications you are taking.  We all hate filling our forms so the most common reaction when a patient is presented with a medical history update form is that they don’t want to complete it.  “Didn’t I fill one of these out last time!” and “Nothing has changed so I don’t need to fill one out!” are typical responses.  However, it is recommended by the Australian Dental Association to update your medical history and tell your dentist the medications you are taking at every visit.

Time You Had A Dental Check-up and Clean?

Is it time you had a dental check-up and clean?  The Australian Dental Association recommends you have a dental check-up and clean at least every six months.  However, many people continue to put this off even though they are overdue, sometimes only coming in to see us a few years after they are due when they have a problem.  Most admit at this time that they regret not having come in for their preventive dental check-up and clean sooner, when they realize that they could have prevented the toothache, broken tooth or gum swelling that they are now suffering from.

Successful Dental Implants

The key to successful dental implants is good oral hygiene.  Dental implants are the best we have available at replacing a missing tooth.  They are not the same as real teeth and because of this patients think that dental implants should be treated differently when it comes to oral hygiene.

Dental Bridge Saved Boston Celtics

After a physical display by the Washington Wizards, a dental bridge saved the Boston Celtics in the second round of the NBA playoffs.  Star point guard, Isaiah Thomas, who is the Celtics best player and only player capable of matching the Wizard’s scoring, may have been sitting on the sidelines indefinitely after a heavy collision.  He is currently wearing a temporary dental bridge spanning four of his front teeth after the heavy knock in the first game of the second round damaged multiple teeth.

Endurance Training

Endurance training has become increasingly popular over the last ten years.  Long distance running, swimming and cycling have been championed as great ways to become physically fit and healthy.  However, it has been found that this newfound general health may have come at the expense of oral health.
